Far infrared rays are part of the electro-magnetic light spectrum and are close to the light frequency of natural sunlight. The way the 7 day trial works is that you purchase the BioMat, and the day that your mat arrives starts the 7 day period. This way you will be able to try the BioMat as much as you like, you can test out different heat settings and experience the difference on each, you can spend as much time as you want on the BioMat, and also at different times of day (you could try sleeping on it).
